St. Francis of Assisi Chuch (Naga, Cebu)

St. Francis of Assisi Chuch (Naga, Cebu)
Last December 24,  I made an appointment with a friend regarding our fun photo shoot. While waiting for her, I took some of shoots of the beautiful Church of Naga City, Cebu.

St. Francis of Assisi Church of Naga, Cebu was manufactured from coral and limestone by Fr. Simon Aguirre in 1839 patterned when the styles done by Bishop Santos Gomez Marañon.

The convent was made in 1864. Together the bell tower and convent were demolished in 1942 and reconstructed in 1974.

From the appearance of whats within, series of renovations and changes has covered much  of the original style and material used however according to B.L. Layug, author of Philippine Churches, “the interior stay unchanged since it had been engineered over a century ago”. The good author should are relating the altar and therefore the surrounding structures within. The facade but has maintained its original type.

The importance of the facade is its art and design. I believe that the meaning behind the church’s symbols provides one thing to think. It is so rare that I think this might be the sole one existing. Absolutely Mexican inspired however it had no distinct architectural vogue.

  1. The belfry was not demolished but was hit by a bomb during the world war II.
