GAME ON! Jcentre's Xtreme Cosplay Competition!

The event will take place at Jcentre Mall, A.S. Fortuna Street Bakilid Mandaue City, Cebu.

This coming Febuary 25,2012 2pm-7pm, at 3rd Floor Jcentre Activity Area.

G E N E R A L R U L E S

Cosplay Competition is open to all event attendees.

The Cosplay Competition is divided into two categories, (Individual and Group Category)

where participants could cosplay any character from the chosen genre : GAME/GAMES may it be Arcade games, Console games, or Computer games.(I hope I could see some Defend of the Ancients character here. That would be awesome.

*THE CHALLENGE

MECHA costumes is not allowed to give competitors a fair advantage.

REPEATED COSPLAY or Characters that have been cosplayed before is highly discouraged, for the Jcentre is a new mall, there for they require new costumes :)

Crossplay is allowed aslong as it is not vulgar or offensive. For registration, the gender of the character should be followed. Ex: Male crossplaying a female. He should register in the female category.

Participants must be “IN Character” once the event starts and can be “Out of Character” after he/she gets off the stage.

Secret Judges may be roaming around the event site to judge the contestant for their characterization.

Participants should be 12 years old and above. Below 18 years old must submit their parent’s or guardian’s letter of consent.

INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY

1) Cosplayer Must have skit. minimum of 3 minutes, maximum of 5 minutes. exceeding 5 minutes will be a 5 points deduction per minute.

2) Cosplayer must be knowledgeable with his/her character and must also prepare for a POSSIBLE interview after the skit

3) We will allow only two Ninjas/Propsmen. He or She can be part of the skit or holds props or back drop, Note that the props men should wear black clothes.

Pls be advised that if the skit is messy and disorganized, there will be a 10 point deduction on the final score.

4) TO AVOID TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES and DELAY: Background Music or Skit Music must be submitted one hour before the event.

5) FAN SERVICE is absolutely not allowed

Registration fee is 100 pesos/person (for the group competition its 100 pesos per member) inclusive of a gamecard worth 100php in Xcite Republic and a raffle stub for the raffle.

Audio should be provided upon registration if ever audio is needed on you skit.

LAZARTE vs CASIMERO: Boxing Turns to Riot

John Reil Casimero The Filipino also a fellow Cebunao knocked out Argentine Luis "Mosquito" Lazarte in the 10th round and won the crown flyweight interim International Boxing Federation moments ago in Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Then "The Mosquito" fell back product of a combination of his rival, but also because they had recovered from the previous fall. The unquestionable victory could not be formalized because hundreds of fanatics invaded the ring and attacked the visitor, the IBF authorities, journalists and all that is crossed in front.

The violent, marked with flags of the Truck Drivers Union of Argentina, hurt the Filipino boxer. Chairs, bottles and punches flew on the corner of Casimero.

This video shows how the audience reacts after the fight.

This event have really caught me up because of the fact that Casimero is a fellow Cebuano also a Filipino. I really hope that Casimero and his ringside are all okay despite of what happen. The World Boxing Council should take a necessary action in accordance to what happen to this fight.

Photo Contest Mechanics and Contest Guidelines

Mechanics:

1. The photography contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers who have registered during the arranged registration period. There must be at least ten (10) registered participants for the photo contest to be official, otherwise it shall be declared as a no contest.

2. Official Entry forms are available beginning January 22, 2012 at Mooon (Ayala and IT Park Branches) and the PhotoShop at the Baseline Complex, or onsite at the USC-TC Football Grounds on February 11-12 & 18-19, 2012.

3. The registration fee is ONE HUNDRED (P100.00) per participant.

4. A maximum of Ten (10) photos may be submitted by each registrant. Excess photos submitted shall be charged P10.00 each. All photos should be taken during the 9th Thirsty Football Festival on February 11-12 & 18-19, 2012 at the USC-TC Football Grounds.

Contest Guidelines:

a. The general theme for the photo contest is “Capturing Moments during the 9th Thirsty Football Cup.”

b. All entries must be candid and un-posed. Photographers are reminded to refrain from calling the attention of and from interrupting the players while the games are ongoing. Photographers are likewise not allowed to enter the pitch when the games are ongoing.

c. The issued Official Photographer’s ID must be worn while inside the USC-TC Football Grounds;

d. Images submitted may be in full color or black and white, or a combination of both;

e. Final entries shall be submitted in a un-mounted 5”x7” Photo Print with or without borders, with the photographer’s ID number indicated at the back of the photo. The JPEG file (edited file) of the image/s in CD format with the name of the photographer on the CD is to be submitted together with the entries in a sealed envelope bearing the name of the photographer on the upper left corner.

f. Composite images and digital alteration like adding/removing of any part of the image is disallowed.

Criteria for Judging:

30% - Relevance to the Theme

30% - Composition

20% - Quality of Image (sharpness/exposure/lighting)

20% - Creativity/Originality

5. Deadline for submission of entries will be on March 5, 2012 at 5:00 pm at Mooon IT Park or at PhotoShop at the Baseline Complex.

6. Judging will be on March 9, 2012.

7. Awarding will be on March 14, 2012 at Thristy Office, Banilad

8. Identifying marks, signs and address to insinuate information of ownership is strictly prohibited on the photo entry.

9. By joining this contest, all entries and finalists agree that the royalty of the photographer shall not apply every time Thirsty/Thirsty Football Festival organizers will use the photos and grants the same royalty-free, world-wide, exclusive license to display and reproduce the photo/s for promotional purposes. Rights to all the entries shall belong exclusively to Thirsty/Thirsty Football Festival organizers. The photographer may not use the photographs or variation of that same composition for any other purpose except for his personal portfolio. Photographers will be given photo credits every time applicable.

Cosplayers are not the only highlights from the recent Otakufest V: Old School Cosplay held recently in University of the Philippines. Toys enthusiast added more fun and enjoyment displaying their favorite toys that they have been collecting. One of the collector told me that they have been doing this to encourage other enthusiast that they are not alone and they are welcome to join their club.

This was my first time to watch a Cosplay competition. An amazing and stressed free relieving experience watching anime fanatics gathering and enjoying the event.

Otakufest V:Old School Cosplay started at around 9 am and was hosted by the University of Philippines. Approximately hundreds of anime fanatic dress as their favorite anime character join the event.

Are you a Jurrasic Park fanatic? Well guess what the dinosaurs are back! And they are in Cebu.

Dinosaurs Alive 2012 features interesting species from the Jurassic era, including:

Apatosaurus
Velociraptors
Pteranadons
Stegosaurus
Triceraptors
Tyrannosaurus Rex

Guests can see life-sized dinosaurs, which may move, stare and generate spine-tingling predator sounds. Additionally to the interactive replicas, Dinosaurs Alive also will introduce breakthrough discoveries in northern New Mexico, together with the invention of a Seismosaurus close to Ghost Ranch. The 121 feet long reptile is a long-necked Sauropod. Its name means thunder lizard. A movie are shown presenting the variations of the large reptiles of the Jurassic period as compared to people who existed throughout the Triassic amount.

Ticket prices are at PPHP 250 for kids aged 1 to 11 years old, PHP 350 for teens aged 12 to 17 years old, and PHP 450 for adults aged 18 years old and above. (I told them that I will get 350 ticket but they asked for my Birth Certificate.)

MV Logos Hope bringing Knowledge, Help and Hope in Cebu

Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan 2012 (Parade Photos)

Last January 8, Sunday afternoon was the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan 2012 held at the Cebu town Sports. Seventeen contingent take part on the competition.

The show officially started around 2 p.m. after a parade of participants that started from the Plaza Independencia to the sports advanced.

Hundreds of crowd, as well as high officers within the town and province of Cebu, witnessed the event.

Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan 2012 Official Winners

With a clear concept along with a spotless entrance and exit and unblemished execution of their movements, Carcar City Division successfully secured their title and beaten 10 other contingents in the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan 2012 last Saturday high school category.

I described their performance as if they were “floating in heaven” and it was astonishing. They are really enjoying what they are doing.

The precision of their movements and their grace were also the reasons Carcar City won the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan the other year.

The 98 dancers of Carcar wore red and golden yellow gowns for females and white barongs with gold accents for males.

The contingent used musical notes and symbols as props. They also used huge cutouts of cherubim playing the guitar, violin, lyre, flute and trumpet, among others.

Other Sinulog sa Kabataan Sa Lalawigan 2012 Winners

For the elementary category, the Danao City East District emerged successful. They defeated San Roque Elementary School from Talisay City, the defending champion.

Danao City defeated five other contingents with their performance highlighting the abundance of the provisions of the Sto. Niño.

Carcar and Danao won P300,000 each. They earned another P20,000 for winning best in musicality and another P20,000 for winning best in costume.

For the elementary level, other winners were the Tuyan Central Elementary School of Naga City (2nd place, P150,00), San Roque Elementary School (3rd place, P100,000), Bogo City Division (4th place, P75,000) and Sta. Filomena Elementary School (5th place, P50,000).

For the high school level, other winners were the Toledo National Vocational School (2nd place, P150,000), Lawaan National High School (3rd place, P100,000), Medellin National High School (4th place, P75,000) and Maslog National High School (5th place, P50,000). The winners can perform in the Sinulog Grand Parade on January 15.

Seventeen contingents performed Last Saturday within the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan, witnessed by many folks from totally different areas in Cebu province.

Governor Gwen Garcia and Cebu town Mayor Mike Rama witnessed the performances, that the lady governor described it as “world-class”.

Minglanilla Church : Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish

The first structure was established by the Augustinians in 1878. The present church was established two years later, with light materials. Its stone convent was constructed from 1877 to 1886. Fr. Nicolas Lopez started the construction of the church with harigues and mortar in 1880. The construction was continued by Fr. Miguel del Burgo in 1878 and completed by Fr. Juan Alonso in 1886. The oldest bell was installed in 1863 by Fr. Fernando Magaz and the the remaining was installed 18 years later.

The church is made of Gothic style - the flame-like arches, the painted domes of the bell towers and the spires, and flying buttresses - which blend well with the semi-circular arched openings. The geometric forms and the trefoil arch suggest possible Muslim influence. The church measures 18m long, 13m wide and 15m high. It has an impressive transept. Its High Renaissance facade has a sharp aisle roof. Arches, semicircular arched main entrance and windows. The bell towers have pinnacles on the corners of the lower roof.

The photography contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers who will register with the Sinulog Foundation during the prescribed registration period for SINULOG PHOTO CONTEST 2012.

Modes of Picture Take being considered.

Film Category – Any analog camera film size / format can be used, as long as the final entry must be a printed (5”x7”)

Digital Category – Digital Cameras that are capable of taking Raw Format Files, APS format cameras are eligible.

Photo Contest Categories

Its basically All activities involving Sinulog 2012 Celebration. Photos must be taken from actual events during the SINULOG 2012 celebration in Cebu City. Pictures of any Sinulog celebration or any other festival in other places and venues and in previous years will not be allowed and would be immediately disqualified.

• Contingent – competing or guest participants of Sinulog 2012 grand parade on January 15, 2012. Picture must be group dancing the Sinulog and not of a solo dancer.

• Fluvial and Solemn Processions – January 14, 2012, the miraculous image is sea borne along the coasts of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu cities while the solemn procession passes through the principal streets of Cebu City.

• Float/Higante and Puppeteers – January 15, 2012, pictures of float, higante and puppeteers must include the whole structure and not the personalities on board the float. Float, puppeteers and higante shots should include the carrier inside the contraption.

• Décor/Arch and sidelights – These pictures may be taken anytime (day or night) of arches and décor set up for Sinulog 2012. Sidelights are human interest pictures taken in the parade route on Sinulog day, or in any other activity taken during the Sinulog week starting on January 2, 2012.

• Festival Queen – Photo to be taken while subject is dancing during the Search for Sinulog Festival Queen 2012 on January 13, 2012 at the Cebu City Sports Center and during the grand parade on January 15, 2012.

IMPORTANT HEAD UPS

If taken in digital format, the corresponding Raw File (e.g NEF, CRW, etc.) in CD format with the name of the photographer and the ID number on the CD and covering on the envelope.

• If APS, the whole magnetic strip must be surrendered with the photographers name and ID number on the film case and on the envelope.

• If Analog, the corresponding negative / transparency in an envelope with the photographers name and ID number.

• Entries must be candid shots: not deliberately posed. Although some degree of effort can be done in posing your subjects (the dancers, Candle vendors, etc.) we however discourage photographers to bring their own models around for the parade like one would do on a photo assignment.

• Identifying marks, signs and address to insinuate information of ownership is strictly prohibited on the photo entry.

The decision of the BOARD OF JUDGES is final and unappealable.

THINGS THAT MIGHT GET YOU DISQUALIFIED

Any digital manipulation tool (e.g. cut & paste, healing, etc.) that is not applicable / do able in the printing process from an analog media (film), shall mean immediate disqualification of the entry. Post production like exposure control (dodge and burn); Color saturation (control); creative cropping are all do able when you print from a negative. Even conversion to black and white color toning (sepia, blue, selenium, etc.) as long as it’s done across the frame and not only its selected areas are acceptable.

Photographs taken in digital format must be accompanied with the proprietary Raw format (e.g. NEF, CRW etc.) digital file in CD format. Film negatives, APS magnetic files must be surrendered to the Sinulog Foundation, Inc. office at the Cebu City Sports Center. Non attachment of these requirements would mean immediate disqualification.

Registration starts on December 15, 2011.

Deadline: January 10, 2012

Registration fee: P1,000 (inclusive of Sinulog ID and photographer’s vest)

Minglanilla Fund Run 2011

Last December 18, 2011 at 5: 30 in the morning a fun run activity was held in Minglanilla. This was the second fun run held in Minglanilla with the theme ”Dagan Ko, Kaayuhan Mo 2”. The starting point for the run was at Plaza Maria going to Tagaytay and back to Plaza Maria for the 3K runners. For the 5k from Plaza Maria to Ugoy then back to Plaza Maria. I was one of the runners running with the 3K category.

The registration fee for 5k was P100.00 without singlet; P200.00 with singlet and for 3K P50.00 with singlet and P150.00 with singlet. The fun run was planned to help raise fund for an activity called “Pangindahay Sa Pasko”, which is intended for our indigent brothers and sisters make their Christmas wishes come true. The Fun Run is designed not only for participants to have fun and to run for health but also to share a small donation.

The event started with a prayer lead by one of the Minglanilla priest Rev. Fr. Oscar Ornopia who was also a runner in the event.

Then followed by a warm up which was helpful to reduce the chance of injury after or on the run.

Something I learn during the event was, don’t shoot and run. I brought my DSLR cam hoping that I could shoot during running but I ended up with blurred shots due to shaky hands and causing a little bit delayed in running.

After almost one hour of running, walking, crawling and riding all the participants have gone to the finish line.
It's not how fast you end the race but how you endure to end the race. But then these are the runners who excel and finish the race fast.

San Remigio Invasion

A day after our Company’s Christmas party we packed up and prepared ourselves for a trip that almost emptied my pocket.

For almost 4 hours of trip we reached to the municipality of San Remegio. It is located in the northwestern part in the province of Cebu. It is 109 kilometers away from the provincial capital-Cebu City. We stayed on one of its famous resort San Remegio Beach Club Sports and Leisure Resort.
